Hand in Hand –
Circle of Friends
For many years there have been direct personal connections to Tanzania. For the members of the Hand in Hand Social Center in Mwanza (HHSC) it is important to meet the African partners on an equal footing and plan the next steps toge-ther. We want to make our contribution to enabling people in the social center to show and make possible liveable perspectives in their own country. The circle of friends is part of the Protestant church community in Gauangelloch. It is open to all interested.
Flora Lufurano
During a visit to Germany in 2015, Flora Lufurano first reported on her work in Tanzania. She is the driving force of the project in Mwanza on the south side of Lake Victoria. With her courageous commit-ment to the needy people of her country, she took the initiative for a social center, which is currently under construction.
Hand in Hand – The Project
With their positive charisma and friendly and hands-on approach to people, Flora Lufurano is already well networked with a growing number of employees in Mwanza and the surrounding area.
In mid-April of this year, the project received the desired state approval to work as a non-governmental organization (NGO). This is an important step!
Already, the social center in its vicinity is active on three major task fields to help the needy.
1. Advice and Support
Street and orphan children, AIDS patients, widows, the elderly, adolescents and young women are offered assistance and future perspectives.
Some of the patients are cared for at home.
A family that lives more or less on the street, and triplets whose mother needs help from outside.
2. Medical Help
If you get them, medicines, as we know them, are hardly affordable. For example, in "Health Gardens", tropical medicinal plants such as Arte-misia, Moringa and Aloe Vera are cultivated to produce vita-rich food and natural medicines, which ia. in the treatment of infections, diarrhea, malaria, heart problems, diabetes and AIDS. Children and parents learn in model gardens how medicinal plants are cultivated and processed and how they can provide themselves with medical care. This is followed by the concept of Anamed (Action Nature Medicine in the Tropics).
Added to this is the day care for children who are not yet in school and whose mothers are employed or sick. In addition, a sales point for medical products will be set up and a mobile clinic will be maintained for care and success monitoring.

3. Sewing Workshop
By setting up a tailor's shop, women and men should be able to earn their own money. Under the guidance of an experienced teacher, creative African products are to be created that are to be offered for sale on the one hand in Mwanza and on the other hand also in Germany. The proceeds will then be used to fund the entire project.
